What are SmileDirectClub aligners?
Our aligner treatment includes several sets of tight-fitting, custom-made, BPA-free clear plastic trays that safely and gradually shift your teeth into their desired position. 100% of our aligners are custom-made in America at our state-of-the-art 3D printing facility. They're designed with ComfortSense™ technology, using soft, medium, and firm plastics that are smooth and won't irritate your cheeks or gums like braces do. And our aligners don't require you to have buttons or brackets glued to your teeth, as Invisalign aligners often do.
How does SmileDirectClub work?
SmileDirectClub straightens your smile using a series of clear aligners that safely shift your teeth according to your unique, doctor-directed treatment plan. All of your aligners are 100% custom-made just for you in America’s largest FDA-cleared clear aligner manufacturing facility. Each aligner will make slight adjustments to tooth position, a process that is mapped out in advance with our proprietary state-of-the-art Smart Sculpt™ technology and approved and prescribed by a state-licensed dentist or orthodontist.
We ship your aligners within 2-3 weeks, directly to you, all at once, so you don’t have to make monthly office visits. This allows us to offer clinically safe and effective treatment for 50% less than braces or Invisalign “Half the cost of braces or Invisalign” claim based on Single Pay vs. avg. fees (incl. diagnostics and exams) for braces and Invisalign treatment, as reported in nat’l surveys of dentists and orthodontists. Comparison does not include added costs, such as retainers, and is limited to mild-to-moderate teeth correction, as braces and Invisalign may treat additional issues.
SmileDirectClub is committed to getting you a smile you love, for life. With our Lifetime Smile Guarantee™, if you feel your smile isn’t working out – during, or at any point after, treatment – we’ll make it right, at no additional cost to you. SmileDirectClub treatment is backed by our Lifetime Smile Guarantee™. Terms and conditions apply. See SmileDirectClub.com/guarantee for details.
What are SmileDirectClub aligners made of?
Our aligners are made with BPA-free plastic that feels smooth and comfortable and won't irritate your cheeks and gums like traditional metal braces often do. We use Comfort Sense™ technology to design the soft, medium, and firm aligner plastics that help safely and gradually move your teeth.
Are attachments or buttons required to move teeth with SmileDirectClub aligners?
No. Unlike Invisalign, we don't require the use of attachments or buttons, which are generally considered unsightly and uncomfortable.
How do I know if I’m right for SmileDirectClub clear aligners?
Every SmileDirectClub order begins with a free Smile Assessment, then a from-home impression kit or free in-person 3D scan to determine if SmileDirectClub aligners are right for you. Our aligner treatment plans are designed for mild-to-moderate teeth correction, including treating space between teeth, crowding, rotations, and some bite correction.
How long do I need to wait after having my wisdom teeth removed before I can start with SmileDirectClub?
Typically, you will need to wait six weeks after having your third molars (or wisdom teeth) extracted before starting with SmileDirectClub. If your dentist or surgeon feels it’s safe, you may be able to start earlier with a signed release form from their office.
What if I still have my wisdom teeth?
If your dentist has recommended removal of wisdom teeth, then please follow that direction. If not, you can purchase our from-home impression kit or book a free, in-person 3D scan, and a state-licensed dentist or orthodontist will review your smile for you. And if they determine that SmileDirectClub aligner treatment isn’t right for you, we'll refund the cost of your impression kit.
Am I a candidate for SmileDirectClub if I have an implant?
Our aligners can work for people with implants. You can purchase our from-home impression kit or book a free in-person 3D scan, and the state-licensed dentist or orthodontist assigned to you will assess your smile and determine if SmileDirectClub aligners are the best fit for you. And if they determine that SmileDirectClub aligner treatment isn’t right for you, we'll refund the cost of your impression kit.
Can I use SmileDirectClub aligners if I have missing teeth?
Our aligners can work for people who have missing teeth. You can purchase our from-home impression kit or book a free 3D scan, and the state-licensed dentist or orthodontist assigned to you will assess your smile and determine if SmileDirectClub aligners are the best fit for you and if they determine that SmileDirectClub aligner treatment isn’t right for you, we'll refund the cost of your impression kit.
Is treatment with SmileDirectClub Nighttime Aligners™ safe?
Treatment with Nighttime Aligners™ is a safe and effective path to a straighter smile. As with any aligner treatment plan, you should follow your prescription from your state-licensed dentist or orthodontist of 10 continuous hours of wear per night. While the average Nighttime Aligners™ treatment time may be longer than the average 22 hour wear aligner treatment time, this discreet and flexible alternative will safely achieve your desired results.
How are SmileDirectClub Nighttime Aligners™ different from SmileDirectClub’s 22-hour aligner treatment plan?
Treatment plans using Nighttime Aligners™ provide a more discreet, flexible option for people with mild to moderate spacing and crowding issues. They'll safely straighten your teeth with at least 10 hours of continuous wear each night.
Our 22-hour-a-day aligner therapy is a faster option for people wanting a straighter smile in time for an event like a graduation or a wedding. They are worn 22 hours per day, and you can typically see results in as little as 4-6 months. Typical Fulltime Aligner treatment plans are 4-6 months. See SmileDirectClub.com/claims for details. Results may vary.
All our aligners are made with ComfortSense™ technology, which safely and gradually moves your teeth with our soft, medium, and firm plastics. They're BPA-free, they're made in America, and they have a natural-looking matte finish.
Will my teeth move more slowly because I'm only wearing aligners at night?
All our aligners are custom-made with ComfortSense™ technology to provide the best fit. Each treatment plan is overseen by a state-licensed dentist or orthodontist, who prescribes an individualized schedule for every Club member.
Nighttime Aligners™ are worn at least 10 continuous hours per night. That’s compared to the 22 hours of daily wear time for SmileDirectClub aligners. The tradeoff is that Nighttime Aligners™ average treatment time is 8-10 months Typical Nighttime Aligner™ treatment plans are 8-10 months with 10 hours of continuous nighttime wear. See SmileDirectClub.com/claims for details. Results may vary. Typical Fulltime Aligner treatment plans are 4-6 months. See SmileDirectClub.com/claims for details. Results may vary.
Is SmileDirectClub the only company to offer a nighttime-only option?
No. However, our Nighttime Aligners™ were the first on the market that could be safely worn for only 10 continuous hours per night. We introduced them knowing that many people would find it more convenient to straighten their teeth while they slept.
Why should I try SmileDirectClub Nighttime Aligners™?
There are 3 key reasons to take advantage of SmileDirectClub’s Nighttime Aligners™:
Convenience: You can get a smile you'll love while only wearing aligners for 10 continuous hours per night.
Affordability: Our Nighttime Aligners™ cost 50% less than braces or Invisalign “Half the cost of braces or Invisalign” claim based on Single Pay vs. avg. fees (incl. diagnostics and exams) for braces and Invisalign treatment, as reported in nat’l surveys of dentists and orthodontists. Comparison does not include added costs, such as retainers, and is limited to mild-to-moderate teeth correction, as braces and Invisalign may treat additional issues.
Accessibility: If you have a career or lifestyle that makes it difficult to wear aligners during the day, you now have the flexibility to focus on straightening your teeth only at night.
Nighttime Aligners™ provide a more discreet, flexible teeth straightening solution if you can't commit to 22 hours of daily wear. They're safe and very discreet to wear because you only wear them at night and while you sleep.
How do I choose between an impression kit and a in-person 3D scan?
An in-person 3D scan can be done at any SmileShop. During a 30-minute appointment, a SmileGuide will make a 3D image of your smile that they'll send directly to our lab so a dental professional can get started on designing your custom treatment plan. SmileShops are located across the country – find one near you on our Locations page. If you’re not near a SmileShop, or if you’d rather get started in the comfort of your own home, an easy-to-use impression kit may be right for you. Simply use the kit to take impressions of your smile, then send it back to us. Return shipping is free. Just drop your completed kit in the mail.
Where can I buy an impression kit?
You can purchase an impression kit for $59 here.
Is the cost of my impression kit refundable?
Yes. Our 30-Day Money-Back Promise is designed to ensure your satisfaction. We’ll refund the cost of your impression kit if your assigned dentist or orthodontist determines our aligners aren’t a fit for you. Simply reach out to CustomerCare@SmileDirectClub.com.
What if I make a mistake on my impressions?
No worries. If our lab receives distorted impressions that prevent them from making accurate aligners, we'll send you a free retake kit.
Can someone walk me through using the impression kit?
Yes! Our Customer care team is available 24/7 via phone, email, and chat to answer any and all of your impression kit questions. Give us a call at 1-800-848-7566 or contact us here. You can also watch our training video here.
What is a SmileShop?
It’s your first step to getting a smile you’ll love. During your visit, a SmileGuide will take a 3D image of your current smile. That image will be sent to a state-licensed dentist or orthodontist in our network who will review your results and, if they determine our aligners are a fit for you, prescribe your treatment plan. The SmileGuide will be there to answer any questions you have, and you can expect the visit to last about 30 mins. And you'll go home with free bright on® teeth whitening so you can start improving your smile right away.
Where are SmileShops located?
Our SmileShops are located across North America as well as in a number of countries worldwide. For a list of shops, visit our Locations page.
How do I schedule a scanning appointment?
Simply book a visit on our Locations page. You’ll be offered a few dates and times to choose from, and our team will follow up to confirm your scheduled appointment.
What happens if I am late for my appointment?
Life happens – we understand. Please call us at 1-800-688-4010 and let us know when we can expect you to arrive at the SmileShop. We'll do everything in our power to work you into the schedule.
What if I need to reschedule my appointment?
Give us a call at 1-800-688-4010 at least 24 hours before your appointment time to reschedule your appointment and avoid a cancellation fee.
How long does the scan take?
About 20 to 30 minutes, give or take.
How does the scanning technology work?
Our SmileGuides use a highly accurate 3D optical camera to capture a digital map of your smile, including your teeth and gumlines. This 3D image helps your prescribing dentist or orthodontist determine if our aligners are a fit for your smile, and allows us to create your personalized treatment plan using Smart Sculpt™ technology.
What are the SmileGuide's qualifications?
SmileGuides are trained to efficiently and accurately capture a 3D image of your smile. Many of our SmileGuides are registered dental assistants, dental hygienists, or home health aides. We actively monitor and evaluate the quality of their work – including your experience. Our SmileGuides can answer any questions you have about our service, process, and technology, as well as most questions about straightening your smile using SmileDirectClub aligners.
What if I can’t or don’t want to go to a SmileShop?
That’s no problem at all. We also offer an easy-to-use, from-home impression kit that includes an online photo assessment and dental impressions.
Does a licensed dentist or orthodontist review my case?
Yes. Every Club members clear aligner treatment plan is doctor-directed and doctor-managed from start to finish.
Can I view what my expected results will be after treatment is completed?
Yes, after we receive your impressions or 3D image, we create a custom treatment plan which shows a before and after 3D visualization of how your teeth will move with treatment. Your treatment plan can be viewed in your account.
How long is the typical treatment process?
SmileDirectClub aligners move all teeth simultaneously, distributing force equally across your entire mouth. The majority of SmileDirectClub’s treatment plans are 4-6 months. Typical Fulltime Aligner treatment plans are 4-6 months. See SmileDirectClub.com/claims for details. Results may vary.
Can I use SmileDirectClub aligners on only my upper or lower teeth?
It’s possible. Your state-licensed dentist or orthodontist will decide what is the safest and best treatment option for you.
How do I use my Movemints?
Movemints help you seat the aligners on your teeth. After you insert your aligners, simply put a Movemint between your teeth, and chew as if it were a piece of gum. Use your Movemints for 10–15 minutes at a time, 2–3 times per day.
Why don’t my aligners cover my molars?
Our goal is to make your custom aligners the appropriate size to realign your smile while being as unobtrusive as possible. Your aligners should cover at least one third of each molar.
How often should I wear my aligners?
Wear your aligners as directed by your prescribed treatment plan. Take them out for eating and drinking.
Will my teeth hurt during treatment?
Much like the days after a good workout at the gym, most people experience some tooth soreness for a few days after wearing new aligners. This is perfectly normal. It is a sign that your aligners are working, gently moving your teeth to their final destination. This soreness should gradually go away after the first few days of wearing new aligners. If the pain doesn't go away, contact our customer care team at 1-800-848-7566
Are there any visits to a dental office during treatment?
Aside from their regular dental cleanings, most Club members don't need to make any additional visits to a dental office during their aligner treatment.
What happens if I lose an aligner?
We know that mistakes happen, which is why it’s important to always keep your previous aligner sets. Give our customer care team a call at 1-800-848-7566 so we can understand where you are in your smile journey and our dental team can provide the best solution for you. Your treating doctor and our dental team may advise you to wear your last set of aligners or to move on to the next set. Your first replacement is free. Subsequent replacement aligners may be subject to a $99 surcharge depending on the circumstances.
What happens after my aligner treatment is complete?
Protect your investment! We strongly recommend you safeguard your new smile with our custom-fit SmileDirectClub retainers. Without retainers, teeth have a tendency to shift back to their original positions. Keep them from moving back with our custom-fit retainers. One set costs $125 and is available to purchase toward the end of your treatment. Call our customer care team at 1-800-848-7566 about 4–5 weeks before you finish your treatment plan to place your order.
How do I preserve my new smile after treatment?
As with any orthodontic treatment, you'll need regular retainer wear to maintain your new smile. For the first 2 weeks after your smile treatment, you'll wear your retainers 24 hours a day (except for eating and drinking). After that, you'll wear them only while you sleep.
We stand behind your smile for life with our Lifetime Smile Guarantee™. As long as you stay current on your retainers, ordering 2 sets per year and wearing them as prescribed, we’ll provide an aligner touch-up per year at no cost to you if your teeth move out of alignment.
How do I change my email or mailing address on file?
Making changes to your account information is easy. Log in to your account on our website or call us at 1-800-848-7566 to update your shipping address, email, phone number, or credit card on file. We’re happy to help you keep your contact information current.
Does my purchase include free teeth whitening?
Yes, all customers receive complimentary bright on® teeth whitening so you can brighten your smile while you straighten it.
How can I keep track of when to change my aligners?
You can keep track of your aligners by logging into your account on our website. Once at your dashboard, simply enter the date on which you start wearing your first set of aligners and we’ll send you reminders to change to the next set.
You can log in to see when you’re scheduled to change to your next set, which aligner you should be wearing, and how many days and aligners you have left in your treatment plan. If you ever get off course because of a vacation or forgetting to wear your aligners, you can always reset your dashboard by clicking the Get Back on Track button.

How do I know if I’m eligible for the Lifetime Smile Guarantee™?
To remain eligible for the Lifetime Smile Guarantee™, follow these steps.
During treatment:
Register your aligners when you receive them, either online in your account or in our mobile app
Wear your aligners for the prescribed amount of time
Complete your regular virtual Smile Check-ins
Stay up-to-date on payments
After treatment:
Stay current on SDC retainer purchases (every 6 months)
Wear your retainers every night as prescribed
I’ve completed treatment, but think I might need a little extra help to achieve my desired smile. What should I do?
During treatment, teeth can sometimes be stubborn and not shift as expected. This is completely normal. In fact, it’s why your dentist or orthodontist conducts regular check-ins to track your progress.
When an adjustment might be needed, our dental team flag this for your treating doctor who will then review and approve a modified treatment plan. When an aligner touch-up is needed and the new treatment plan has been approved and prescribed by your doctor, we will create and ship new aligners, at no cost to you, so you don’t miss a beat.
If you’re unsure about asking for a touch-up, please contact us via chat, phone call, or email to speak with our dental team.
How do I know if I’m eligible for an aligner touch-up?
You could be eligible for an aligner touch-up if you:
Wear your aligners as prescribed throughout your smile plan, except when eating or drinking anything other than cool water.
Register your aligners at SmileDirectClub.com/login.
Respond to each regular Smile Check-in™ from your doctor by sending an email with the requested photos.
Are current on your payments.
How do I request an aligner touch-up?
During treatment, if you’re concerned your teeth aren’t moving as expected, please contact us via chat, phone call, or email to arrange a Smile Check-in™ with our dental team. Share your concerns with our team and ask about an aligner touch-up. They will evaluate your plan and if it’s decided an aligner touch-up is needed, we will create and ship new aligners, at no cost to you.
I missed a check-in (or forgot to register my aligners or order retainers), and I’m not sure my Lifetime Smile Guarantee™ is still in effect. Is there anything I can do to become eligible again?
Things come up. We get it.
If you are currently in treatment, you will become eligible again as long as you:
Check in your aligners (check your email or the app to do this)
Complete your future Smile Check-ins™ (via email or our app)
Are current on your payments
Purchase retainers after treatment, replace them every 6 months and wear them as prescribed
If you just finished treatment, you can become eligible again as long as you:
Are current on your payments
Replace retainers every 6 months and wear them as prescribed
If you’re unsure whether you’re eligible, contact us to find out.
I completed treatment over 30 days ago, why am I not eligible?
Currently the Lifetime Smile Guarantee™ is for new Club members, Club members currently in treatment, and Club members who have finished treatment within the past 30 days.
Are my results guaranteed?
Yes. You can expect the results you achieve at the end of your Smile Journey™ to reflect those you saw in your original doctor-approved treatment plan. Of course, just like any other clinical treatment, your plan may need some adjustments along the way. This is completely normal. That’s why your plan is doctor-directed, and that’s why our Lifetime Smile Guarantee™ includes aligner touch-ups, at no additional charge.
Are straighter teeth really healthier teeth?
Yes, straighter teeth deliver definite health benefits. Since they’re easier to clean and floss than crooked, crowded teeth, having a straighter smile reduces your chances of tooth and gum disease. And since misaligned teeth are more susceptible to chipping and other wear and tear, straighter teeth can also last longer.
Can straighter teeth improve my overall health?
Yes. Straighter teeth are easier to clean, which contributes to overall good dental health. Poor dental health has been linked to heart disease, stroke, kidney issues, and more. So having straighter teeth can significantly contribute to better overall health.
Are there preventive healthcare benefits to straighter teeth?
Yes. Straighter teeth are easier to clean, leading to improved oral hygiene. Poor oral hygiene, on the other hand, can result in oral infections, which contribute to diseases like endocarditis, cardiovascular disease, and pneumonia. So straightening your teeth can help you to avoid these health complications.
How is SmileDirectClub so much less expensive than braces or Invisalign?
Our telehealth platform eliminates the office overhead that makes traditional orthodontics costly. That’s how we’re able to provide doctor-directed teeth straightening for 50% less than braces or Invisalign “Half the cost of braces or Invisalign” claim based on Single Pay vs. avg. fees (incl. diagnostics and exams) for braces and Invisalign treatment, as reported in nat’l surveys of dentists and orthodontists. Comparison does not include added costs, such as retainers, and is limited to mild-to-moderate teeth correction, as braces and Invisalign may treat additional issues. SmileDirectClub treatment is backed by our Lifetime Smile Guarantee™. Terms and conditions apply. See SmileDirectClub.com/guarantee for details.
Why are your treatment times so short?
We've pioneered new technologies and innovations that result in shorter treatment times, allowing our Club members to straighten their teeth in as little as 4-6 months. Typical Fulltime Aligner treatment plans are 4-6 months. See SmileDirectClub.com/claims for details. Results may vary.
All of this is how we deliver precision teeth straightening on a schedule your teen will love.
Are SmileDirectClub aligners covered by insurance?
Yes, you may be eligible for coverage from your insurance company. Use the instant eligibility tool on our Insurance Page to find out exactly how much your provider will cover. In most cases, SmileDirectClub will coordinate payment directly with the insurance company, so you only pay the balance of what you owe after insurance coverage is applied to your total treatment cost. There are some cases where your insurance company may require that you pay the total balance of your aligner treatment before applying for reimbursement through them. If so, we will provide the forms you need to file your reimbursement claim with your insurance provider.
What happens if there’s a dental issue during treatment?
Simply connect with our Dental Care team — they're available 24/7 via video, text chat, email or phone. They'll be able to advise you on any concerns you may have during treatment without any in-office visits.
What happens if my teen loses an aligner?
We understand that mistakes happen. For starters, give our Customer Care team a call at 1-800-688-4010 so we can understand where your teen is in their Smile Journey™. Then our dental team can provide the best recommendation for your teen's care based on their unique situation. Either way — give us a call and we’ll work with you to develop the best path forward for your teen's treatment.

How do I know which teeth straightening solution is best for my teen?
Your assigned dentist or orthodontist will determine which aligner treatment plan is best for your teen.
Our SmileDirectClub aligners are a faster and more convenient option for teens who want to complete their new smile in time for a special event – like graduation or back-to-school photos. Worn for 22 hours of daily wear, they'll help your teen achieve a straighter smile in as little as 4-6 months. Typical Fulltime Aligner treatment plans are 4-6 months. See SmileDirectClub.com/claims for details. Results may vary.
SmileDirectClub Nighttime Aligners™ are worn for 10 continuous hours each night. They provide a more flexible solution for teens who don’t want to commit to 22 hours of daily wear. Treatment takes an average of 8-10 months. Typical Nighttime Aligner™ treatment plans are 8-10 months with 10 hours of continuous nighttime wear. See SmileDirectClub.com/claims for details. Results may vary.
All our aligners are Made in America using ComfortSense™ technology, and constructed of BPA-free plastic with a natural-looking matte finish. All work best for cases of mild to moderate spacing or crowding. All straighten teeth without the use of buttons, attachments, or teeth filings. And unlike with metal braces, your teen will be able to eat their favorite foods and maintain good oral health habits like brushing and flossing without brackets in the way.
Is it safe for my teen to wear their aligners while they play sports or instruments?
SmileDirectClub aligners can be worn with zero interference. They’re designed using ComfortSense™ technology and created from comfortable soft, medium, and firm BPA-free plastics. For any sport where a mouthguard is recommended, however, your teen should remove their aligners and reinsert them after gameplay has ended. Additionally, while our aligners can be worn during the playing of musical instruments, if your teen finds it affects their ability to play, the aligners can be removed until your teen is finished playing.
What foods can my teen eat or not eat?
Because aligners are removable, there are no food restrictions. So long as your teen removes their aligners before eating and drinking anything other than cool water, they may eat whatever they want – even apples and popcorn. Be sure your teen brushes and flosses after eating, before putting their aligners back in.
How does my teen clean and maintain their aligners?
Caution: Do not use hot water. It can damage the plastic in your aligners and make them unwearable. Try these methods instead.
smile spa™
Our smile spa is the first cleaner to combine ultrasonic vibrations and UV light to thoroughly clean all sorts of mouth gadgets – aligners, retainers, mouthguards, nightguards, TMJ appliances, water flosser tips, and even toothbrush heads. It kills 99% of odor-causing bacteria 5 common odor-causing bacteria: S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, S. mutans, P. loesheii, F. nucleatum.
Soap and water Squeeze a bit of gentle liquid soap into a cup of warm water and mix to form suds. Soak your aligners in the soapy water for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly in cool water.
Vinegar and water Mix 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts warm water in a cup. Soak your aligners in the liquid for 20 minutes, then rinse thoroughly in cool water.
Baking soda and water Mix a tablespoon of baking soda with ½ cup water. Soak your aligners for 60 minutes, then rinse thoroughly in cool water.
Peroxide and water Mix equal parts hydrogen peroxide and warm water. Soak your aligners for 30 minutes, then rinse thoroughly in cool water.
Are aligners painful to wear?
SmileDirectClub aligners are custom-designed using ComfortSense™ technology to give your teen the best fit and feel during treatment. But similar to the muscle soreness you might feel after trying a new sport or exercise for the first time, most people experience some tooth soreness after wearing new aligners. It's perfectly normal – a sign that your aligners are working. And just like with exercise, there’s a payoff if your teen keeps wearing their aligners. Ensure that your teen doesn't miss more than one day of continuous wear, so their teeth don't begin to shift back. If the pain doesn't go away, contact our Customer care team at 1-800-848-7566.
Do you offer retainers?
Yes, and we strongly recommend you purchase them to safeguard your teen’s new smile. Our custom-fit retainers lock your teen's smile in place, so their teeth don’t shift again. One set (upper and lower) costs $125, and your teen will wear them at night. Place your retainer order here about 4–5 weeks before your teen finishes their treatment plan. At SmileDirectClub, we stand behind your smile for life. As long as you replace your SDC retainers once every 6 months and wear them as prescribed, we’ll provide an aligner touch-up per year as needed, at no additional cost. That’s our Lifetime Smile Guarantee™.
Can we talk to my teen’s dentist remotely?
You’re welcome to connect with your treating doctor through our telehealth platform. Our Dental Care team is accessible via chat, video, email or phone, 24/7/365. Using our remote telehealth platform, you will have regular Smile Check-ins™ with your dentist or orthodontist as well. We’ll be with you every step of the way.
Does my teen need to have their wisdom teeth out?
Each orthodontic case is unique and different. If your teen’s regular dentist has recommended removal of their wisdom teeth, then please follow that direction before beginning aligner treatment.
Is there a midpoint check-in with a dentist, and if so, what can we expect during that check-in?
Your teen will receive regular reminders for Smile Check-ins™ with their doctor via our telehealth platform or the app, so their progress can be monitored. During that time, you’ll provide pictures of your teen wearing their aligners so your prescribing doctor can evaluate fit and movement. The doctor will make sure your teen is tracking to their custom treatment plan.
Do you fix complex bite or jaw issues?
SmileDirectClub aligners are designed for minor to moderate teeth correction including gaps, crowding, rotation, and some bite correction. Braces can correct more severe issues, including overbite, underbite, crossbite, or jaw disorders like TMJ. Your assigned SmileDirectClub doctor will advise whether SmileDirectClub aligner treatment is a good fit for your teen. If the doctor deems that your teen’s case is too severe for SmileDirectClub aligner therapy, we will give you a full refund and refer you to an orthodontic specialist in your area who can help.
Why should I choose clear aligners over metal braces for my teen?
One of the benefits of clear aligners is that they can be easily removed, so your teen can practice good oral health habits like flossing and brushing. Metal braces often hinder that process for teens, and they struggle to keep up with proper oral hygiene. Plus, SmileDirectClub aligners cost 50% less than braces or Invisalign “Half the cost of braces or Invisalign” claim based on Single Pay vs. avg. fees (incl. diagnostics and exams) for braces and Invisalign treatment, as reported in nat’l surveys of dentists and orthodontists. Comparison does not include added costs, such as retainers, and is limited to mild-to-moderate teeth correction, as braces and Invisalign may treat additional issues.
What happens if I’m not satisfied with the results?
If at the end of your teen’s treatment plan they have followed the treatment guidelines and have not achieved a smile they love, please contact us via chat, phone call, or email to arrange a Smile Check-in™ with our Dental Care team. They'll evaluate your teen's plan and progress to determine if an aligner touch-up is necessary. If it is, we’ll create and ship new aligners, at no cost to you.
How do I prevent my teen from losing their aligners?
Encourage your teen to keep their aligner case in the same easily accessible spot, and to always bring their case with them when they’re leaving home. They can store their aligners in the case while eating or drinking and put them back in their mouth once finished. If you’re traveling for an extended period of time, be sure to pack your teen's next set of aligners, so they can switch them while you’re away from home.
What is the right age to start straightening teeth?
Individuals must be at least 12 years old to begin treatment with SmileDirectClub. Additionally, all permanent teeth must be present. For those under the age of 18, a parent or guardian signature is required on the provided medical and dental history form.
How do I follow my teen’s progress?
You can keep track of your teen’s treatment using our telehealth platform or the SmileDirectClub app. On the dashboard, enter the date on which your teen starts wearing their first set of aligners, then we’ll do the rest. You can log in to see which aligners they should be wearing, when they’re scheduled to switch to their next set, and how many days/aligners they have left in their treatment plan. If your teen ever gets off course after taking a vacation or forgetting to wear their aligners, just reset their dashboard by selecting the Get Back on Track button.
How does my teen know when to switch their aligners?
When your teen receives their aligners, they should log in to their account at SmileDirectClub.com/checkin, or on the SmileDirectClub app, to let us know they’ve received them. We’ll send notifications when it’s time to switch to a new set of aligners. They’ll also receive a prompt to upload progress pictures so their assigned doctor can monitor their progress through our telehealth platform. Using the dashboard will encourage teens to stay on track to get a smile they’ll love by the end of their treatment plan.
Is there somewhere I can talk to other parents whose teens have gone through SmileDirectClub treatment?
You don’t have to take our word for it – ask one of over 2 million Club members who have achieved a new smile here. This Facebook group is not affiliated with SmileDirectClub in any way, so we encourage you to join and ask around.
