SmileDirectClub and the doctors who use our teledentistry platform share your commitment to patient safety and satisfaction. Know the facts about SmileDirectClub, its teledentistry platform and dental support organization (“DSO”) services.

  • The clear aligners and dental impression materials dispensed to patients by doctors using our teledentistry platform and DSO services are not “do-it-yourself” or “over the counter.”  They are sold and manufactured pursuant to valid prescriptions from doctors who are licensed in the state of the patient’s location.

  • The FDA registration status of the manufacturers from which SmileDirectClub sources patient-customized aligners and the dental impression materials are proper and current.

  • SmileDirectClub’s network of state-licensed dentists and orthodontists using SDC’s platform limit treatment to mild to moderate malocclusion cases.

  • The doctors who use our teledentistry platform and DSO services require every candidate for clear aligner therapy to confirm that they have visited their regular dentist within 6 months and that they continue to see their regular dentist during treatment.

  • The doctors who use our teledentistry platform and other DSO services always have the discretion to require additional information (e.g., having their patients visit their regular dentist for cavity consults and x-rays) before approving a treatment plan or any time during treatment.

  • Doctors who wish to use SmileDirectClub’s teledentistry platform and DSO services are required to have a minimum of four (4) years of prior experience with clear aligner orthodontic therapy, be in good standing in all states in which they are licensed and be licensed in the state where the patient resides.

  • Doctors who use SmileDirectClub’s teledentistry platform and other DSO services are credentialed in the same manner as doctors are credentialed in dental plan networks. SmileDirectClub re-credentials these doctors every two (2) years, consistent with how most dental plans operate with respect to credentialing.

  • SmileDirectClub is confident that its operations, and those of the doctors who use its teledentistry platform and other DSO services, are consistent with the valid and appropriate practice of teledentistry and dentistry pursuant to the state laws that regulate such practices.

Doctors utilizing SDC’s teledentistry platform and other DSO services have helped bring access to orthodontic care to urban and rural areas across the country, reaching many people who otherwise would be unable to access and/or afford treatment.
