There are 2 ways to start your smile journey: taking impressions with our impression kit or visiting a SmileShop for a 3D scan. What’s included in a SmileDirectClub impression kit?

1. Purple and gray putty

You should have 4 gray putty cups and 4 purple putty cups. You’ll mix the gray with the purple to make impressions.

2. Impression trays

You should have 4 trays. These help hold the putty mixture in your mouth.

3. Smile Stretcher

You should get just 1. This odd thing helps you get nice pictures of your teeth.

4. Nitrile gloves

You should have 1 pair. Um, they keep your hands (and mouth) clean.

Order Kit

Once you have your kit, here’s what you need to know to take good, quality impressions at home – and read up on these common mistakes to avoid while taking your impressions.

We know you’re excited, but don’t forget to read all the instructions in the included Impression Guide to make some great impressions. Bright lights and a mirror will come in handy, so the bathroom might be the best place to start. Before you begin, make sure your impression materials are at room temp. Brush and floss your teeth, wash and dry your hands, put on your gloves, and get a timer ready to keep your impressions on track. Don’t forget to grab a towel – it’s not pretty, but you may drool when taking your impressions out.

You’ll be making a total of 4 impressions: 2 for your top teeth and 2 for your bottom teeth. Each one takes 2.5 minutes to complete. (We include the second set so you can review your first set to see if anything seems wrong with your impression, then fix any issues the next time around.) There’s also a sticker inside your impression kit to seal it up and send it back (the shipping is on us).
