6 easy self-care things you should do every day

Make 2019 the year of you. These self-care ideas are a good place to start.

Self-care doesn’t just mean taking a bubble bath with slices of cucumbers on your eyes (although, sign us up for that too). An act of self-care can be as simple as washing your face or making your bed.

Make 2019 the year of self-care. Get started with these 6 easy things that you should do for yourself every day.

1. Wash your face.

Start the year off right by establishing an easy new skincare routine. All it takes is 3 products – a cleanser, serum, and moisturizer – and less than 5 minutes twice a day to properly care for your skin. Even when you’re half asleep and can barely muster the energy to take out your contacts, taking a few minutes to wash your face after you brush and whiten your teeth will always pay off. Your future self will thank you.

2. Take your vitamins.

If you take a multivitamin or any supplements, get back on track by making sure you’re taking them every day to nourish your body. Put your vitamins in an easy-to-grab spot to make them a part of your routine. Consider adding a scoop of collagen to your coffee in the morning to strengthen your hair, skin, and nails. This simple habit is an easy thing you can do to take care of your body.

3. Make your bed.

We know, you’ve heard it a million times. People with CEO potential make their beds every morning. Yada yada. Making your bed sets you up to have a productive day since you accomplish something first thing when you wake up, they say. Take it or leave it, but nothing is nicer than coming home to a neatly made bed after a long day. This habit is easy enough that it’s worth trying out and doing something nice for yourself.

4. Eat something for breakfast.

Whether this means scrambling an egg, sitting down for a bowl of oatmeal, or grabbing a protein bar out of your desk drawer as you settle in to your desk, it’s important to fuel your body for the day. Having something in your system will kick-start your metabolism and increase your energy levels throughout the day.

5. Move your body.

We’re not saying you have to work out 5–6 times a week to take care of your body. But moving your body in a small way every single day will make you feel better. Take a 15-minute walk during your lunch break. Walk the dog. Find an at-home workout video online. Stretch. Try a new fitness class with a friend. Do candlelit yoga at home before bed. It doesn’t matter what you do as long as you do something to move your body each day. Trust us: You will feel a difference, both physical and mental.

6. Create a pre-bedtime ritual.

Do your newfound skincare routine, make a cup of chamomile tea, brush, floss, smile at yourself in the mirror, climb into bed, and read a book. Okay, it doesn’t have to be that perfect every night, but create a mini pre-bedtime ritual that signals to your body it’s time to unwind and go to sleep. Doing little things like enjoying a cup of herbal tea every night before you brush (and yes, floss) your teeth can be a soothing ritual that helps you relax after a long day.
