Congratulations. You have completed your smile journey and achieved alignment. But your teeth are going to want to shift back into their old ways and places. Fear not. Fellow grinner, meet your clear retainers. They’ll keep your smile from getting out of line.
Here are 5 things you need to know about your SmileDirectClub retainers.
SmileDirectClub retainers are thicker than the invisible aligners to hold your beautiful new smile in place. Retainers are made from thicker .76mm thermoplastic polyurethane and built to keep your teeth from moving back to their original position.
Wear your very first retainer set all the time for 2 weeks, just like you would aligners. This means taking them out only when eating or drinking anything other than cool water. After the 2 weeks are up, or if this isn’t your first set, wear your retainers just at night, every night (for at least 8 hours). Good night, retainers.
Replace your retainers every 6 months to keep them clean, fresh, and tight-fitting. While you can clean them, they will still get dirty and degrade over time. Just like a toothbrush (or socks). Also, replacing them keeps the plastic strong, and your smile in place. You can always contact us to order new retainers.
Keep your retainers clean by soaking in a mixture of gentle liquid soap and warm water. You can also use a retainer cleaner, but avoid abrasive cleaners, like toothpaste, which can scratch your retainers and cause damage. Never use bleach, alcohol, or other harsh chemicals as cleaning agents, and avoid boiling water, which can warp your retainer friends. We’re going for sparkling smiles here, not scratched-up gums.
Yes, you will need to wear your retainers every night for the rest of your life – or for as long as you want your straight smile to last. But you can grin happily, knowing your teeth won’t shift back.
If reading this reminds you that it’s time to order your next set of SmileDirectClub clear retainers, there’s no better time than the present. Order your clear retainers today.
